This masters thesis describes and analyzes the relationship between power and participation in international development and educational cooperation, based on an understanding of education as an emancipatory force of subjectification. It is a field of tension that since the era of colonization has forced the 'others' into a deterministic normativity. One-sided educational processes and one-sided help from the point of view of a 'rich' and 'developed' west characterize the picture of development cooperation despite the debate on sustainability in international discourse. As an analytical tool, post-colonial theories and post-development approaches are used to approximate a possible abolishment of hegemonic structures of power between the project part-ners in educational cooperation.
